After the Korean War, which ended in 1953, Korea was split into two separate countries – North Korea and South Korea. Even though the war ended a long time ago, the countries still do not get along well.

The two countries have two different kinds of governments. South Korea is a rich country which has had a lot of help from the United States. North Korea is ruled by one man, Kim Jong Un. Recently there have been many arguments between Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump, the leader of the United States.

North Korea has tested some missiles, which makes many people worry that the country may attack the United States or some of its allies (friendly countries). North Korea says they think the U.S. is planning an attack, because the U.S. Navy has so many boats in the water near Korea. The U.S. says that they only want to protect South Korea.

In February, the Winter Olympics will be held in South Korea. In the meetings next week, the two sides will talk about how they can work together during the Olympics. They will also discuss how they can improve the way they treat each other.

Most people agree that it is good for the two sides to sit down and talk, but some people do not think the talks will help much. They say that in the past talks like these have not helped much, and that things quickly got worse after the talks.

These people think that after these talks, North Korea may continue with more missile tests and that the problems between North and South Korea will go back to the way they were before.
