Mexico City’s Metro Has Deadly Train Crash

A train accident killed at least 25 people and injured over 70 others in Mexico City on Monday night. Two cars from the city’s Metro rapid train system crashed into the traffic below them after a raised railway overpass collapsed. The main cause of the accident is not yet known.

The two cars were left hanging downwards, only partly on the tracks. Rescuers rushed to help people injured in the crash. Later, cranes were used to lift the cars and help others.

A train accident killed at least 25 people and injured over 70 others in Mexico City on Monday night. Two cars from the city’s Metro rapid train system crashed into the traffic below them after a raised railway overpass collapsed.

The accident happened on the system’s newest line, the Golden Line, which opened in 2012. The Metro has had several accidents, and many people have long warned of problems on the Golden Line. Some people have suggested that the line may have been damaged in a 2017 earthquake.

Mexico’s president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, says there will be a full investigation into the accident. The results of the investigation could hurt Mr. López Obrador politically, since he used to be the mayor of Mexico City, and its other recent mayors have been close to him.

The accident is worrying for the hundreds of thousands of people who depend on the Metro to get around.

Mother from Mali Gives Birth to Nine Babies

A 25-year-old woman from Mali has given birth to nine babies. That’s two more than she was expecting.

Halima Cisse made the news in Mali when it was learned that she was expecting septuplets – seven babies. Giving birth to so many babies is very complicated. Often some of the babies don’t survive.

In order for Ms. Cisse and the babies to have the best care possible, she was flown to Morocco in late March. On Tuesday, Ms. Cisse had a special operation to deliver the babies. Instead of seven, there were nine – five girls and four boys. The word for this is “nonuplets”.

Fanta Siby, Mali’s health minister, reports that “The mother and babies are doing well so far.” Because the babies are so small, they’re expected to spend several weeks in the hospital before the mother and her very large family return to Mali.

Belgian Farmer Moves Stone, Changes Border

Normally, it takes lots of long discussions between diplomats to change the borders between two countries. But a farmer in Belgium appears to have changed the border between his country and France simply by moving a large stone.

The border between Belgium and France was decided by a treaty over 200 years ago. Since then, there have been stone markers placed along this border.

But it seems that a farmer in Belgium was upset at the location of one of these stones and decided to move it out of his way. But by moving the stone 7.5 feet (2.3 meters), he actually made Belgium bigger and France smaller.

Luckily, the move was noticed by some people in France who were walking along the border, checking the stones they found against a map. Since the markers are placed in a certain way, they noticed right away that something wasn’t right about the stone. “It just looked strange,” Jean-Pierre Chopin said.

The farmer has been told that he needs to move the stone back.
