The US government has many laws that allow it to deport people who are in the US illegally. These deportations are usually done safely and carefully after making sure the people don’t have the right to be in the US.

Instead of following these methods, Mr. Trump’s government said it was using a 1798 law to send over 260 people to El Salvador. The law is meant to be used during wartime. But the US is not currently at war.

Last Saturday, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), a group that defends people’s rights, asked Judge James Boasberg to stop the planned deportations. The ACLU said that at least five of the prisoners had been falsely accused.

Last Saturday, President Donald Trump’s government sent a group of Venezuelans out of the country, even though it was told not to by Judge James Boasberg (above). The judge has demanded that the government explain why it disobeyed his orders. Mr. Trump has responded by attacking the judge.

Judge Boasberg told the government to stop the deportations for two weeks, to make sure everything was legal. He also told the government to bring back any of the planes that were already headed out of the country.

On Sunday, the White House said it had already sent the Venezuelans out of the country, and that it had not broken the law by doing so. The government said it didn’t have to obey everything the judge said, just the orders he had written down. The government claimed that its planes were already outside of the US when it got Judge Boasberg’s order.

Judge Boasberg has demanded more information about when the planes left the US, who was on them, and where they were going. So far, Mr. Trump’s government has not given Judge Boasberg the answers he has asked for, and has missed many of the deadlines the judge has set.

The government released videos, showing the prisoners, with shaved heads, and chains on their hands and feet, being marched by armed guards. The prisoners are now in a high-security prison in El Salvador.

The government claims that 137 of those people belong to a violent gang from Venezuela. The gang has been linked to serious crimes like kidnapping and murder. The White House says that the deported people were criminals and that it was legal to send them out of the country.

But so far the government has offered no proof of who the prisoners were or what they had done wrong. It’s not clear that the people had the chance to defend themselves, which is expected under US laws.

A number of people have come forward, saying that they recognized some of the men shown in the video, and that those men were innocent.

Mr. Trump has said on social media  that he wants Judge Boasberg to be removed.

The situation has many people worried. They are concerned that if the US government can remove people without giving them a chance to defend themselves, then anyone could be targeted.

Many people are also upset that Mr. Trump’s government chose to ignore a judge’s order and then attack the judge. Judges are an important part of the checks and balances  that keep the US system of government stable.
