COVID-19 – Current Report

Information as of January 20, 2021

The new coronavirus disease, COVID-19,  continues to spread around the world. The disease has now gotten to more than 190 countries. Only 12 countries in the world have not yet reported cases of the virus.

The number of cases around the world continues to increase quickly. There have now been around 96.9 million cases, and more than 2,074,700 deaths reported around the world.

Though the news has been mainly focused on the very serious problems caused by the disease, it’s important to remember that many people who get the illness don’t have serious effects. Most people who get the disease get better. So far, 53,367,302 people around the world have recovered after having COVID-19.

Each country is testing and reporting its numbers in its own way. This means that comparing numbers for different countries may not give a true picture of how the disease is actually spreading.

China was the first country to face a large outbreak of COVID-19. Though China managed to control the spread of the virus, there have also been repeated new outbreaks. So far, China has had a total of 98,544 cases.

Currently, the five countries with the largest outbreaks are US (24,438,723 cases), India (10,610,883 cases), Brazil (8,638,249 cases), Russia (3,595,136 cases), and UK (3,515,796 cases).
