NASA is a United States agency that explores space. The letters of NASA’s name stand for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
NASA was started in 1958 by President Eisenhower. Since then, NASA has led most of the exploring that the US has done in space.
In the 1960’s NASA explored the moon. In 1969, they put a man on the moon. Later NASA built SkyLab, a research station in space. They also made the Space Shuttle. This vehicle that could go into space many times instead of just once. Since 1993 NASA has been working with other countries on the International Space Station (ISS). NASA has also sent space ships to learn about Mars and the rest of our Solar System.
These are some of NASA’s big projects. They have also done research in many other areas. They have learned a lot about space. They have also helped invent things that ordinary people use everyday. Some examples are water filters, glasses that are hard to scratch, and roads with grooves on the sides.
