News Roundup: Keystone Cancelled, BTS Meals, & Cicada Plane

Keystone XL Pipeline Project Is Cancelled

On Wednesday, the Canadian company TC Energy, announced that it was ending the Keystone XL pipeline project. The pipeline, if it had been completed, would have carried over 800,000 barrels of oil every day from Canada’s tar sands in Alberta to Nebraska.

The pipeline was meant to connect to the original Keystone pipeline, which could have brought the oil all the way to the Texas.

90 kilometers of pipe for the Keystone XL pipeline have been strung along its right-away near Oyen. Premier Jason Kenney toured the area on Oct. 8, 2020.

But the project drew protests from groups working to protect the environment. Many Native American groups also fought the pipeline, saying they didn’t want it crossing their lands.

In 2015, Ex-President Barack Obama refused to allow the pipeline to go ahead. In 2017, Ex-President Donald Trump reversed Mr. Obama’s decision. But soon, the project was delayed in court.

On his first day in office, President Joe Biden blocked the pipeline again, as part of a push to take action on the climate crisis.

The end of the project is a disappointment to the government of Alberta, Canada, which has put over $1 billion into developing the pipeline. Environmentalists are celebrating the decision, hoping that it will make it easier to stop other pipeline projects.

BTS is one of the hottest groups in the world, so it’s not surprising that the BTS meal is popular. But it may be too popular.

The BTS Meal was first offered in Indonesia on Wednesday. Indonesia is currently struggling with a severe outbreak of Covid-19.  That didn’t stop thousands of people from asking food delivery drivers to go pick up BTS Meals.

The meals were so popular that the government worried that the crowds of delivery drivers might spread the coronavirus even faster. To prevent that, 20 McDonald’s restaurants were temporarily closed in Jakarta. Several more restaurants were closed in other cities around the country.

On Tuesday night, a plane that was meant to carry dozens of reporters to cover President Joe Biden’s trip to Europe was unable to take off. The problem? There were cicadas in the engines.

Much of the eastern United States are now dealing with billions of cicadas. These insects have been underground for 17 years, but have now come out in swarms to mate and lay eggs. Their numbers are so great that they have even showed up on weather radar.

As Mr. Biden spoke to reporters before his plane took off on Wednesday, he was hit by a cicada, which he swatted away. The reporters weren’t so lucky. Though their plane was on the runway and ready to take off, the flight was delayed when it was discovered that there were cicadas in the engines.

As Mr. Biden spoke to reporters before his plane took off on Wednesday, he was hit by a cicada, which he swatted away. For the reporters, the effects lasted longer.

White House workers had to find another plane for the reporters. Finally, around 2:15 in the morning, the reporters took off, leaving the cicadas to fly on their own.
