On Tuesday, an American company called Boom Supersonic made history when its test jet broke the sound barrier. It’s the first privately built supersonic jet to go faster than the speed of sound.


Private Company Makes Perfect Moon Landing

On Sunday, a company called Firefly Aerospace became the first private company to make a perfect landing on the moon. Firefly is working with NASA, and its spacecraft, Blue Ghost, is carrying out several experiments for the space agency.


Company Edits DNA to Create Woolly Mice

A company called Colossal Biosciences has created thick-haired mice that they are calling “Colossal Woolly Mice”. The mice, created by editing DNA, are meant to be a step toward the company’s larger goal of recreating the extinct woolly mammoth. Not everyone thinks it’s a great idea.


Scientists Track Bees With Tiny QR Codes

Scientists at Penn State University used an unusual method to track honey bees. By placing tiny QR codes on the backs of the bees, the researchers can keep track of when the bees leave and return to their hives. The work will help scientists learn more about how bees collect food and how far they travel.

Scientists in Australia have used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to help them locate a rare bird called the Plains-wanderer. This new information will help scientists protect the birds, which are endangered.


Human-Like Robots Run Half Marathon in China

Last Saturday, a half marathon was held in Beijing, China. About 12,000 runners took part. On a separate track, beside the human runners, 21 human-like robots tackled the same challenge. It was the first race of its kind. Despite the challenges, six robots finished the race.


Vera Rubin Telescope Reveals Amazing Images

On Monday, scientists released the first pictures taken by the Vera C. Rubin Observatory in Chile. The observatory has a powerful new telescope that’s designed to take complete pictures of the southern night sky over the next ten years. It’s expected to bring huge changes to the way scientists study space.


Is Seeing Believing? AI Videos Look Extremely Real

Over the last year or so, the quality of AI-generated videos has become so good that it’s extremely difficult to tell whether a video is real or not. An English TV channel recently ran a show about AI. At the end of the episode, the “woman” presenting the show announced that she wasn’t real.
