Spanish Scrabble Champion Doesn’t Speak Spanish

On November 16, Nigel Richards once again won a world Scrabble championship. That may not seem surprising, since Mr. Richards has already won many Scrabble championships. But this Scrabble contest was in Spanish – a language Mr. Richards doesn’t even speak.


The Poozeum – a Museum for Dinosaur Poop

Last May, Arizona got a new museum that focuses on something that many people find disgusting: poop. Not just any poop, but really old poop. So old, in fact, that it has turned into a fossil. The Poozeum is a collection of thousands of examples of “coprolites” – fossils made of poop.


Cory Booker Speaks for 25 Hours in US Senate

Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey spoke for over 25 hours on the US Senate floor yesterday. His marathon speech was an effort to call attention to concerns he has over the actions of President Donald Trump. Mr. Booker’s speech has set a new record.


World’s Tallest and Shortest Dogs Meet

Last month, the world’s shortest dog and the world’s tallest dog had a chance to meet. Reggie the Great Dane and Pearl the Chihuahua got along great. Their meeting was a fun reminder that friendship doesn’t depend on size.


Man Wakes Up With Ship in His Yard

On May 22, Johan Helberg was woken up by the phone. It was a friend, calling to make sure he was okay. Why? In the very early morning, a massive container ship had crashed into Mr. Helberg’s back yard, stopping very close to his house.


Seagull Hitches 80-Mile Ride on a Garbage Truck

Scott Shaffer is a biologist who studies birds. In 2018, he was studying data from a tracking device he had placed on a gull. He was surprised to find that the bird had gone for an 80-mile (129-kilometer) ride on a truck carrying food scraps. And the bird had done it twice in just one week.


Meteorite That Hit House Is Older Than Earth

When a fireball fell through the sky in the southeastern United States on June 26, it caught the attention of people across seven states. It was a meteor breaking up as it fell through the Earth’s atmosphere. A small part of the space rock tore through a house in Georgia. Scientists now say the meteorite is older than the Earth.


Swedish Church Rolled for Miles to New Home

Workers in Kiruna, Sweden have been working hard to raise one of the country’s most famous churches and roll it over 3 miles (5 kilometers) to a new location. The church’s old location was no longer safe. The operation took two days to complete.


Scientists Create Toothpaste With Wool

Scientists at Kings College London, have come up with a very unusual toothpaste – it was made using sheep’s wool. The scientists say the toothpaste can not only protect teeth, but can also help repair damaged teeth.


Massive UK Pumpkin Sets New World Record

On October 6, two brothers – Ian and Stuart Paton – set a new world record for the heaviest pumpkin ever grown. The champion pumpkin beat the old world record by about 70 pounds (32 kilograms). It also set a new record for its size, measuring over 21 feet (6.4 meters) around.
