In today's news roundup, protests and violence continue in Myanmar two months after a military coup, early elections in Greenland bring the opposition party to power, and endangered right whales are having a good year, with the most calves since 2015.
Around 270 pilot whales were stranded after swimming into shallow water off the island of Tasmania in Australia. This is the largest whale-stranding event in years. People are working hard to save the whales, but at least 90 have died.
Among the more unusual news stories recently…a humpback whale swims up a river in Australia, away from the ocean, orcas off the coast of Spain are ramming boats, and 10,000 ducks race to clean rice paddies in Thailand.
Last year, a group working to protect sea animals rescued two beluga whales from an aquarium in China and flew them to Iceland. The belugas have now been moved into a protected ocean area off the coast of Iceland.
Last week, hundreds of whales died by swimming onto land in New Zealand. It is not unusual for whales to do this, but this time there were several events in a few different places.
